Where digital education shines?
Schools and pre-schools
Digital transformation in schools allows for better communication between students, parents and schools, and opens up new learning opportunities.
Thanks to edtech, parents have a greater understanding of what’s going on at school. They know what and how their child learns without leaving home.
Digital solutions can also better take into account children’s attention spans. With short sessions, educational games are tailored to how children actually focus and learn, rather than forcing them to sit in a classroom for 45 minutes.
The multicultural environment emphasised by educational applications lets children interact with culturally diverse people from a young age, which positively affects their social development and prepares them for a globalised world.
In addition to all the benefits e-learning brings to students, listed above, it also provides an opportunity for universities to overhaul their business model, making them more resilient to current challenges and ready to thrive into the future.
For a start, with the coronavirus situation preventing students from attending classes, universities are seeing a drop in income, especially from international students who are no longer able to travel. Offering a world-class online education experience dissolves those geographic barriers and opens the doors to more potential students than ever before – allowing unprecedented opportunities to scale.
What’s more, a robust e-learning offering boosts universities’ eco credentials, by drastically cutting down on the amount of energy required to deliver courses. According to the UK’s Open University, online courses reduce energy requirements by an average of 90 percent and produce 85 percent fewer CO2 emissions per student. Plus, telecommuting reduces air pollution and road traffic, while digitisation minimises paper usage.
At the same time, digitisation makes it possible to manage the university, staff and students more efficiently, in turn creating a next-level learning environment for students from around the world.
We increasingly stay at home and work remotely. It’s quickly become apparent that we should also be able to learn online.
No wonder demand for remote learning is at an all-time high.
Many professionals are looking for courses that are not available in the places they live. For them, remote learning is a unique proposition that saves both time and money.
Edtech startups need to do their homework and understand the user journey for teachers, parents and students alike, in order to respond to specific challenges and meet their needs.
Startups need to know exactly who their target group is and how their product will impact them. That’s why it’s essential to define goals and set meaningful measurements that allow the business to scale.
The process of digitizing education is ongoing. Teachers need professional learning support and digital tools, which right now are often unintuitive, low in content and not well-adapted to the way teachers, schools, students and parents actually work.
Education calls for digital innovation. We’re here to help edu-startups bring it to schools.
Digital development in education
– case studies:
Better communication and decision-making for better schools
Inspired by the challenges of communicating with other parents at his children’s school, the founder of Takto.to enlisted our design and engineering help to launch a platform for parents and teachers to better organise school activities.
We also built an intuitive mobile app so that kids can send a quick “emoji” to let their parents know how they’re doing.
The students and staff at Haugetun High School have never been so organized
Haugetun High School in Norway wanted to help faculty and students organise their academic life on campus.
Working together, we designed and launched a PWA mobile app to enable swift communication, including event registration, staff messaging, faculty absence info, a canteen menu and many more useful features to ensure everyone is well-informed and where they need to be.
Learning and teaching numbers is fun with TenTown from the UK
TenTown is an educational platform used by schools in myriad countries to educate kids about numbers using vibrant characters and stimulating games.
To support the founder’s goal of shifting from legacy software to a new e-commerce platform, we built a brand new version, using modern tech to greatly improve the back-office management and deliver an educational web platform ready for smart growth.
Streamlined communication at the Canadian College in Qatar
The Canadian College of the North Atlantic in Doha fosters world-class education by exchanging faculty between two remote countries and cultures.
Their goal was to facilitate effortless communication for both staff and students, and to streamline the exchange administration.
Our UX designers worked onsite, running user research, Design Thinking workshops and collaborative prototyping and testing sessions to design and launch a successful intranet solution.
A novel approach to teaching through current affairs
Munin Buzz is a weekly web news magazine for Norwegian teenagers. Their aim is to help teach children subjects like politics, culture and economics based on the current news.
To support Munin Buzz in their modern teaching initiative, we created a web tool that allows teachers to easily plan topics for weeks ahead and schedule the curriculum for their students.
